Smoke Signals

Smoke Signals, Still / Life
Smoke Signals
I have always been enamored by the way smokes moves through a still atmosphere when illuminated with a back light. In the wrong light, smoke can go largely unnoticed. But with the right environment, an infinite number of shapes and forms can unfold, influenced by and similar to each other sure, but never repeating in full symmetry. And then, as soon as they form, they are gone. So much beauty in such a short, yet not swift, moment. The forms dance and die slowly, alllowing us mortals the privilege of experiencing an ephemeral magic. I wonder what they are trying to tell me?

This picture was taken against a blank wall with an external flash positioned slightly behind perpendicular to the camera. Funny enough, this particular photo was actually taken while trying to dial in more appropriate settings, and it turned out to be my favorite one. Shows what I know. Don't fight serendipity!
